But Is She Really Thrifty: Sidewalk chalk paint

Sidewalk Chalk Paint
-2 cups of cornstarch
- 2 cups of water
- a few drops of food coloring of your choice (be it natural food coloring artificial).

You can use ANY equal amounts of cornstarch and water. If you just want to make one color in a cup, use 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and water.  2 cups each made enough to divide it up into 4 containers (four colors).  Add your cornstarch FIRST, then add water and use a wisk and mix it all up. Then I divide up the large batch into smaller cups and add food coloring. If you water it down a little more you can use it in a spray bottle.  The color looks light when you "paint" the asphalt with it--but it will become more vivid as it dries. It seems like we always have some kind of cheap sponges or foam paint brushes around to use with the paint.  This time I cut up an old scouring sponge, folded them in half and used clothespins to hold them.  I always just make a batch and then we use it so I'm not sure how long it would "last" if you wanted to store your "paint".
